Our Department stories run between 750 and 1050 words. We run feature articles of 1,050 to 2,150 words.

The typical rate of payment for work published in Chronogram is $.10 per word. We do not offer kill fees or any other compensation for stories we choose not to publish. Chronogram reserves the right not to publish any story submitted to us if it does not meet our editorial standards, even if the editor has initially given a writer the "go-ahead" for a story idea. If a story is purchased, Chronogram owns first-time North American print and Web rights, which revert to the writer after a period of three months.
